Practical Example: Fire Extinguisher Powder Becomes Fertiliser

An example from our practice illustrates this approach: decommissioned fire extinguishers contain valuable ABC powder with important plant nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. In its original form, however, the dusty material cannot be used directly as fertiliser. Through targeted combination with potassium sulphate – a by-product of biodiesel production – a high-quality NPK fertiliser is created that meets all quality standards.

Multi-Stage Processing: Denikelisation of Vegetable Oils

Even more complex is the treatment of hazardous waste: nickel-containing fatty acids from fat hydrogenation are classified as a problem substance due to their health-hazardous properties. At our processing facility in Bokel, we have developed a special procedure that safely removes nickel from these oils. The result is two recoverable fractions: a nickel-free fatty acid and a nickel-rich salt solution – both of which can be used in different applications.

These examples represent many further projects in which we create valuable secondary raw materials from problem substances through our own process development. Our processing facility in Bokel is the centrepiece of our activities – here we can professionally treat both non-hazardous and hazardous waste and channel it into new recovery routes.

In this way, BaeckTrade makes an active contribution to the circular economy. By employing innovative technology and handling resources responsibly, we bring economics and ecology together.
